We all have those boxcars, flatcars, or tankers that are workhorses on the layout but what about the weird ones?
Do you have a car with an unusual load?
A circus wagon? A mail crane car?
Maybe a scratch-built oddity that turns heads every time it rolls by?
For me, it’s a homemade “circus train” flatcar loaded with tiny 3D-printed elephants and carnival gear. It started as a joke during a layout challenge, but now it’s a fan favorite whenever I run it. The paint job’s a bit wild—bright reds, gold accents, and a hand-painted banner on the side.
Runner-up: a maintenance-of-way caboose I converted into a mobile BBQ shack for a fictional short line. Smoke effects included.
