Have you ever gone to crazy lengths to get that perfect shot — maybe crawling under the layout, balancing a phone on a stack of scenery foam, or building a mini tripod from scrap materials?
What’s the funniest or most creative thing you’ve done behind the scenes to capture your trains in action?
I rigged up a “camera car” using a flatcar, double-sided tape, and a phone barely hanging on for dear life. Rolled it through a tunnel, and the footage turned out better than I expected—until the phone tipped mid-ride and all I got was five seconds of ballast zoom-in!
I’ve also stacked books, paint jars, and even used a clamp-on desk lamp arm as a makeshift boom. Anything for that cinematic shot, right?
