Community Builders and Collaborators

What Would Our Ideal Group Project Look Like?

Model railroading is amazing solo—but it’s even better when we build something together. Whether it’s a shared layout, a collaborative diorama series, or even a global-themed rolling stock exchange, the possibilities are endless when creative minds team up.

    So here’s the big question:
If we could launch a community project right now—what would you want it to be?

A modular layout where each person builds a themed scene?

A shared story where each member adds a photo/video chapter?

Group weathering challenge or rolling stock swap?

    Something totally new?

Drop your ideas, comment on others, or even offer to co-lead something. Let’s build more than layouts—let’s build connections.

Nothing brings the hobby to life like working on something together! A modular layout with themed scenes sounds fantastic, especially if we set a shared scale and base size so everything fits smoothly. We could even vote on a setting—like “coastal towns,” “mountain freight,” or “urban industrial”—and each person builds their own take on it.

The shared story concept is super creative too. Imagine following a single boxcar or locomotive as it “travels” across our members’ layouts—each person adds a short video or photo chapter showing it in action on their setup. It would be like a cinematic layout tour!

I’d be up for co-leading a rolling stock swap or even a group weathering challenge. It’d be fun (and a little scary!) to see how someone else weathers a piece of your rolling stock.
