I’ve always been fascinated by how much character you can pack into a small footprint. A 12″x12″ layout forces you to focus on storytelling through subtle details and smart design.

I’m thinking of building a foggy harbor-side scene with a short siding, a weathered fish shack, and maybe a small switcher moving crates at dawn. Some dim lighting and a tiny boat alongside the dock could bring it to life. 🌫️⚓

The trickiest part will be balancing realism with compression, but that’s the fun of it, right?

Think you can fit an entire railway scene into just one square foot? That’s the challenge!

Design and build a micro-layout that tells a complete story within a 12”x12” space. It could be an urban alley with a trolley, a mountain pass with a tunnel, or a tiny rural depot. Bonus points for movement, lighting, or clever details!

    Challenge Rules:

    Max base size: 12”x12”

Must include at least one track and one structure

Tell the story behind your scene
