A couple of weeks ago, my old SD40 took a nosedive off the edge of the workbench. The front handrails were bent, one coupler popped out, and it refused to move when I put it back on the track. I figured it was done for, but after poking around I found one of the pickup wires had come loose. A bit of solder, some gentle bending on the rails, and a fresh drop of oil on the gears and it was running again.
It’s got a few battle scars now, but honestly I kind of like it that way—it tells a story.
