I had a very similar experience—once I realized I could print the parts I couldn’t find anywhere else, it was a total game-changer. My first print was a trackside electrical cabinet (HO scale), and even though it was a bit rough, seeing it on the layout made it all worth it.
I’ve mostly been using shared files from Thingiverse and Printables, but I’ve started dabbling in Fusion 360 for simple designs—especially when I need something super specific. Still learning, though!
I’m using an FDM printer (Ender 3 V2), and while it’s great for structures and crates, I’ve been thinking about grabbing a resin printer for finer detail—especially for figures and loco detailing parts. Supports are hit or miss for me… I’ve had a few fail catastrophically mid-print, especially with delicate walls.
